First, make sure you are logged in with your myCUSO login. You have two ways to request registration for a workshop: (1) From the main Activities page, click on the registration icon on the far right column for the workshop you want to attend. (2) From the workshop’s description page, click on the "registration" link. You will receive an immediate receipt by email to say that your request has been received. We will process your request as quickly as possible and send you an email to confirm your registration or to let you know you are on the waiting list.
Please see first the "Participation" questions for the advantages of joining a CUSO doctoral program, and for what to do if you are not sure whether or not to become a member. If you are already registered on our internal list, you can send us an email ([email protected]), specifying the name and date of the activity you would like to attend. On condition that you are a currently registered doctoral candidate with one of our member institutions, we will put you on the waiting list. For the less popular workshops, we are usually able to confirm your place, and occasionally for the more popular activities. This process begins one month before the date of the workshop: if a place is still available, we will contact you to confirm your registration. We encourage you to note the date in your diary from the outset.
Yes! Waiting lists are always in operation for every workshop. If you let us know you’d like to attend (by requesting registration), we’ll be able to contact you if we have a cancellation. The waiting lists are also a great way for us to know the "real" demand for a workshop. If we find there’s budget available, and the trainer is too, we will try to organise an additional date. In this case, anyone on the waiting list for the first date will have priority access to the second. Finally, and even if we can’t manage an additional date, the length of the waiting list helps us better judge how to organise the offer for the next year.
It depends on how many registered participants cancel, how long the waiting list is, and where you are on the list. You can check with us at any time to see where you are on the list (write to [email protected]). If you’re a member of a CUSO doctoral program without any restrictions, you will have top priority for placement. As soon as we receive a cancellation, and if you name is next on the list, we will contact you. At any event, we strongly encourage you to pencil the date in your calendar: if we do manage to offer you a place, it would be a pity to have to turn it down for something that could otherwise have happened on another day...
The CUSO is unable to award ECTS credits directly. Nevertheless, your home institution (faculty, program, etc.) can review your participation in a Transversal Program activity and decide whether and how to award credits. For all of the CUSO Transversal Program workshops, we provide certificates of attendance which indicate the number of contact hours. You can find them in your MyCUSO space. In addition, members of a CUSO doctoral program have access to a record of all activities on their myCUSO account, along with the number of hours involved. (For certificates for your CUSO doctoral program activity, please contact the program’s coordinator.)
It is possible to attend more than three workshops in one semester, and there are plenty of people who do. We restrict immediate confirmation to three registrations per semester, but you are free to request more. We have over a thousand places available each year, while there are at least 4,000 doctoral candidates registered with the CUSO! Our goal with the ’rule of three’ is to ensure that as many as possible get to attend at least one of our workshops. If, after you’ve chosen your top three workshops, you see there are others you’d like to attend, just request the registration! We will put you on the waiting list and if, in the last few weeks before the date fo the workshop we see there is a place available, we will contact you in order to confirm your participation. In this case, we encourage you to pencil the date in your schedule - just in case. Cancellations do happen regularly, and we are often able to confirm a place for people on the waiting list. Please note that the "rule of three" does not apply to workshops in the "EXP" category.
If the workshop is marked "complet/full", it means there is already a waiting list. If the number of participants indicated is less than the maximum, that means that we've had a cancellation and we're working through the waiting list to confirm the registration for the next available person. As it's first-come, first-served, your request will be treated after everyone else.
As a member of a CUSO doctoral program, you can use your myCUSO account (created when you registered with the program) to request registration for any Transversal Program workshop. To register for a CUSO doctoral program, you’ll find the link on the relevant program’s website (see https://www.cuso.ch/programmes-doctoraux/). To register for a Transversal Program activity, make sure you’re logged in to myCUSO first. You can then request registration for an activity directly by clicking on the "registration" link on the activity page.
No, the Transversal Program modules are there simply to organize the offer. You have free choice of whatever workshop you would like to attend. We do of course ask that you read carefully the description for each workshop - some require previous knowledge or may not be exactly what you might have expected from a quick read of the title. Participants have been frustrated, but only because they were expecting something else!
No, there are no fees. The CUSO universities have pooled their resources in order to provide the Transversal Program activities free of charge to their doctoral candidates, with priority for members of the CUSO doctoral programs: there are no registration or participation fees, and your travel costs are also reimbursed. In return, we ask that you play your part! Our activities are often over-subscribed, and for every participant who doesn’t show up as expected, someone else hasn’t had the opportunity to attend. Please make sure you block the day for the workshop, and if you see that you are no longer able to participate, let us know well in advance so we can cancel your registration and find someone else to take your place! (*Valid for travel outside of your home institution’s city.)
