Lang EN Workshop language is English

Speakers

Dr Alain Kaufmann, Prof. Lazare Benaroyo

Description

This workshop provides doctoral candidates with a general introduction to ethics and ethical codes in research.

Ethics should be understood as at once a method and a critical reflection on the values and norms that dictate our action. We will pay particular attention to the ethical dimension that defines the codes and norms of good practice in a given scientific community. The course will include an overview of the main national and international regulations currently in force. The participants will work with an interdisciplinary selection of cases and discuss them in groups.

The course should help doctoral candidates to identify the ethical issues contained in their research object, whether as part of the research community (scientific integrity, plagiarism, etc.) or as part of society as a whole (social, economic, legal, political aspects). The course thus aims to develop responsible scientific activity.

Objectives

  • Be aware of the regulations governing ethics in research and be able to put them into practice
  • Be able to identify the ethical issues contained in one's research.
  • Be able to deliberate within an interdisciplinary framework and to come to a decision on ethical questions.
