Description

Workshop Overview
Professional networking platforms, such as LinkedIn, are powerful tools for managing your career and professional network. Your digital profile is often your first impression, enhances your visibility, and should align with your professional goals. These platforms also offer a centralised way to grow and maintain your professional connections. For those in exploratory or active job-seeking phases-whether in academia or beyond-LinkedIn can focus and streamline your search.

This workshop focuses on LinkedIn, though the topics and themes are applicable to other platforms. It will guide participants through the steps to craft an authentic, coherent, and professional profile that stands out in a competitive environment. You will also learn systematic methods for searching, connecting, and sharing to maximise the platform's potential.

The workshop is designed for doctoral candidates from all fields with little or no experience using LinkedIn. It takes place online across two sessions held one week apart. Participants will build their profiles between sessions and receive individual feedback in the second session.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the workshop, participants will:

  • Write a compelling profile headline and summary
  • Create an accomplishment-focused profile
  • Learn strategies to search for jobs during exploratory and active job-seeking phases
  • Integrate customised features to enhance their profile
  • Engage ethically and effectively online

Preparatory Work

Participants must:

  • Create a basic LinkedIn profile before the first session and familiarise yourself with all the available sections.
