Description

Online professional networking tools such as LinkedIn can be a valuable addition to your professional tool box to manage your career and your network.

Your digital profile is often the first online impression you make and it should reflect who you are. Professional networking platforms can also be useful if you want to manage and grow your professional network in one place. If you are in an exploratory or active job seeking phase either in or out of academia, platforms can help you focus your search.

Focusing on LinkedIn, this workshop will guide you through the basic steps to build an authentic, coherent and professional profile to help you stand out in a competitive environment. The workshop will also introduce participants to methods to search, connect, link and share with others in a systematic way. The workshop is open to doctoral candidates from all fields who want to use LinkedIn and have little or no experience in using the platform.

This workshop will take place online in two sessions a week apart. Participants should open a LinkedIn profile before the first workshop ready to understand best practices in each section. Participants work on their profiles during the interim time and receive individual feedback in the second workshop.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the workshop participants will:

  • Have written their profile headline and summary
  • Write an accomplishment focussed profile
  • Know how to search for jobs in either an exploratory and active job seeking phase

  • Interact ethically online.
