Description

This 2-day workshop will help participants to improve their spoken communication in English in a variety of situations, both formal and informal, such as discussions, question and answer sessions and presentations. We will concentrate on the language used to give opinions, ask and answer questions effectively and to structure a presentation.

The first day will be devoted to interactive exercises, confidence building, and some theory, while on the second day participants will give a presentation on their research topic, integrating the skills they have learnt. There will be peer and teacher feedback on presentation skills, as well as on grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation.

Participants will prepare a 10-minute presentation to be given on day 2.

Learning Outcomes:

The doctoral candidates will have developed their academic speaking skills and be able to participate more effectively in group seminars, deliver a scientific presentation and answer questions on their research.

Intended Audience:
Participants from all disciplines and at any stage of their doctorate are welcome. The workshop is aimed at participants with little experience of presenting their research in English.
