Description

Finding and keeping the momentum is crucial in scientific writing. Distractions and disturbances, the tendency to spend too much time on details and the awareness of starting a big writing project, while sitting in front of a white page, is probably familiar to many researchers. This workshop is about planning and organizing yourself during the process. It provides an overview of approaches and tricks how to start the writing process, work within deadlines and develop an individual writing routine and behaviour.

The workshop is organized over a duration of four hours (including short breaks) to provide an overview of does and don'ts to manage your writing process with the overall aim to encourage participants to develop their own habits. Combined with theoretical inputs by the trainer, participants will reflect their situation, needs and challenges during clearly defined exercices and share experiences during group discussions. Before the session, participants are asked to fill an online survey to understand their expectations in the training and identify their individual challenges.

Learning Outcomes:

Participants who complete this session know how to:

  • Define motivation
  • Consider the daily performance and identify the optimal hour
  • Identify the essentials and set priorities
  • Planning: define tasks, make a timeline and check the progress
  • Learn how to develop writing habits
  • Understand how to design the working environment
  • Overcome obstacles and excuses
  • Discuss procrastination and barriers

What we DON'T do: Talk about text styles, editing and text structures.
