Description

The agile project management workshop is an advanced project management (PM) course aimed at researchers working with a team of students or other researchers. It places high value on collaboration and on the ability to respond quickly to change. Agile PM turns the traditional academic approach "upside down". Instead of extensive background research, planning, preparation, testing, feedback and revision, agile PM breaks projects down into smaller working blocks, that are continuously delivered and receive feedback within short time frames, to ensure incremental improvements throughout the process. During the course of this workshop, participants will have the chance to bring their own research projects and work on challenges they have encountered while leading other researchers in the project.

Participants should have previously followed a Project Management training course.

Building on the concepts and learnings from the Fundamentals PM workshop, participants will:

  • Learn key concepts of Agile project management such as user, product backlog, or sprint and transfer them to the research environment,
  • Apply the Agile method to plan and manage a project with multiple team members,
  • Work on project team essentials incl. trust, roles and responsibilities, and communication,
  • Analyze the stakeholder setting and devise ways to systematically handle stakeholders,
  • Lead collaborative problem-solving sessions and facilitate team meetings
  • Learn how to address conflicts potentially arising during the implementation of a project by pro-actively designing work agreements, actively listen, using principles of non-violent communication, and by giving powerful feedback.
