Description | Video-journalism is one of the most rapidly expanding and exciting developments in the field of research communication: it is a form of journalism, where the reporter accomplishes many tasks, including pitching, developing and researching stories, producing, shooting, editing and presenting his/her news in a film format. In this workshop, we seek to challenge, inspire and train a new generation of researchers to find innovative, creative and journalistic ways of reporting research through film.
Workshop content: During the 2days workshop: Participants will get theoretical introduction into the following topics:
After the 2days workshop: (PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS PART IS NOT COMPULSORY) After finishing the workshop, participants are giving the possibility to produce their own video-reports (2-10 minutes long) in 2 months. During this period they could ask for help and support from the trainer.
Learning Outcomes: At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to prepare their own video-reports. In particular they will learn how to:
Intended Audience: The workshop is for all doctoral candidates (both Social Science and Humanities, and Exact and Nature Sciences). In the case you have already participated in the "Film-making for Scientists" workshops with Dr Angelone: please note that "Video-Journalism for Scientists" is 50% similar to the "Filmmaking for Scientists". The repeated part from the "Filmmaking for Scientists" workshop will be regarding to the technical part (cameras, lightings and editing software). The other 50% will be different from "Filmmaking for Scientists". It will be about journalism, script and storyboarding for video-journalism and practical part (video-reports).

The Trainer: Dr Samer Angelone is a filmmaker and scientist. He is the founder of the Global Science Film Festival, and works as a jury-member for prestigious international film festivals. Angelone has directed several fiction and documentary films. He teaches 'Filmmaking for Scientists', 'Storytelling & Storyboarding Science', and 'Video-journalism for Scientists' at different universities, research institutes and film festivals.
