Description

Finding and keeping the momentum is crucial in scientific writing. Distractions and disturbances, the tendency to spend too much time on details and the awareness of staring a big writing project, while sitting in front of a white page, is probably familiar to many researchers. This break out session on planning and organizing yourself during the scientific writing process provides an overview of approaches and tricks how to start the writing process, work within deadlines and develop an individual writing routine and behaviour. The workshop is organized over two hours to provide an overview of does and don'ts to manage your writing process with the overall aim to encourage participants to develop their own habits. Combined with theoretical input by the trainer, participants will reflect on their individual challenges and review their self-management plans during the writing process. Before the session, participants are asked to fill a short survey to understand their expectations in the training and identify their individual challenges.

Learning Outcomes:

Participants who complete this session know how to:
• Define motivation
• Make a timeline and set priorities
• Consider the daily performance and how to develop a writing habit
• Define writing tasks, make a concept and check the progress

• Overcome writing crisis and excuses
What we DON'T do: Talk about text styles, editing and text structures.
